#49 Senseless

courtesy Roman W.

Closed eyes

and closed mouths

have we also closed thoughts?

To the repercussions of our propagated hate

that forms a cycle that never breaks

these hard, calculating stone shells of ours

except the one that holds

the deepest parts of

hell that sets aflame

our bodies

and everyone that holds

our hands

around this earth,

even if we never desired

them to be held...

We are this world

and though we isolate

ourselves more

than the oceans and

seas separating our regions

and continents,

when we burn

we also burn the ones

we refuse to acknowledge

as our sisters and brothers.

Deaf ears,

selectively trained to hear

only the themes

that we've self-explained

among the small circle

of our decaying brains

that can only understand

as far as the skulls

in which they are contained,

and thus

oblivious to the strain

of what everyone

plucking the eyes

out each other's faces

has left us to manage...

This solemn refrain

that has no melody

but just annotations

of unheard screams

and erratic timing

that dances on

skin numb from

agonizing terror

that falls

down like the

stacked dominoes

we really are...

Human beings killing

the earth, themselves

and each other.

Blind leading the blind.

Love cast asunder,

leaving us all

senseless

on a planet

where hate

is determined to prosper.

#44 None Other Than...

courtesy: Victoria Herrera

We want to claim

lands

that we never

tilled

or explored

but we want it

prepared

so we can reap

its harvest

and begin to

build up our stores

and we want it all

at the drop

of the hand

that passes

a second after

we rob our clocks
of time, it's
most precious
contraband.

We want everything

and we want it

to be perfect

we want

our dreams to be

accomplished

before we even

dream them

we want successes

but deny

the responsibility

it takes

to get from

where we are

to where

we hope to be...

Who are these culprits?

We want to win

the war

without having

first passed

through

a battle

needing more than

we're receiving

and getting less

than what

we're needing

preferring to

skip stages

in life

that render us nothing

but incompletions.

We want our cake

on a platinum

platter

but we have no idea

what makes it edible

we're unconcerned

about the contents

of its batter

we don't want to

make the creation

we just want

the recognition

that comes from

having it displayed

with our picture taken...

Who are these persons?

We want the parts

that bring us to

a leading role of a

play we never

understood.

We never learnt

the lines or

understood

the characters' lives

but it only

takes

a certain number

of figures

or a family's

pride

to

influence a director

to consider someone

as good.

We want the bravos

and the tossed

flowers

yet reject

the art of

the long spent

hours

reciting

a text that

held in each

letter

the exhausting

life of

someone's wearied breath...

Who are these protagonists?

Who are they?

None other than...

#34 Sudden Death

courtesy: Cop Richard

Sudden death
leaves words
that were never formed
permanently unsaid.
It rids you of all the time
that had passed
and the moments that
were ill spent

Sudden death
expels a void
that is created deep within the gut
burning and painfully dry
into a harsh, tumultuous
storm of tears
you had no idea
you could cry.

Sudden death
leaves memories
imitating reality;
and blurs the line
between what is true
and what you refuse to believe

Sudden death
will shake your hand
only to strip your very core
but though unkind
it teaches you what is relevant
and what should be ignored.

Sudden death
steals laughter
and leaves it without a home
and replace it with
silent moans
that stay trapped in the walls
of your throat.

Sudden death
is selfish but selfless
all at once
gifting you a view of life
and the way you’ve lived
the path you should take onward
and those you ought to shun

Sudden death
is experienced
but hopelessly naïve,
taking generously
but failing to see
the struggle that creates
for us human beings….
